Sarah Arnold Selected as District 2 County Commissioner by the Governor

Sarah Arnold was selected to serve as District 2 County Commissioner in St. Johns County by Governor DeSantis.

The St. Johns County District 2 Commissioner's seat has been empty, since Jeb S. Smith resigned on Nov. 2, 2021 to serve as president of the Florida Farm Bureau, and Arnold will now serve out the remainder of his term.

District 2 includes West Augustine, Hastings, Flagler Estates and it extends west to the St. Johns River.

Sarah Arnold appointed St. Johns County District 2 Commissioner 

Sarah Arnold is the director of resource development for United Way. According to a St. Augustine Record article, Arnold is a 36-year-old mother of four. She grew up in Mandarin, graduated from the University of Florida, lives in the northwestern part of St. Johns County, which is in the northern part of District 2, and she has lived in the county for 13 years. "My passion is service and working toward the betterment of our community, and this was a natural extension of that," she said to the Record. Arnold sits on the board of the non-profits the Dream Big Foundation and the Child Guidance Center of Jacksonville, and she is a member of Rotary.

The District 2 Commisioner's seat is up for election in 2022, and two candidates have filed to run for the seat: Johnny Coe Counts of Hastings and LaShawnda Pinkney, a West Augustine resident, who works as a human resources generalist for the City of St. Augustine.

Pinkney is a also a board member of the West Augustine CRA Steering Committee, where she serves as the cultural and quality of life chair. Pinkney is known in the West Augustine community for her community service and for organizing events such as the Keep Calm and Walk for Cancer, Toys for Tots, Christmas in the Park and autism awareness events.
