Update on Project S.W.I.N.G Closure - the Wooden Park in Downtown St. Augustine

Project SWING Playground Wooden St. Augustine Closed Sign

Project S.W.I.N.G - The wooden park downtown has been closed since May 2021 due to safety concerns, and the City of St. Augustine has now come up with a plan to move forward. Talks about repair and reconstruction are under way, and the playground is expected to re-open in the summer of 2022 in time to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Project's S.W.I.N.G's creation in 1997.

"As we move forward, the city has agreed to an ad-hoc committee of stakeholders who were instrumental in the 1997 community-wide construction of the playground to coordinate the fundraising effort and serve as liaison on the project with the city, led by City Commissioner John Valdes, including Mike Davis, Les Thomas, Philip McDaniel, and Troy Blevins."

The wooden park has brought joy to many of our kids here in West Augustine and in Linconlnville, as it is one of the only free things to do downtown.

As of now the older-kid section of the wooden playground is now closed off, but you can still use the toddler section of the playground in downtown St. Augustine.

The city has created a website, where anyone interested in contributing can donate money to the repairs of the new park. Project S.W.I.N.G Park Donations here.
