Fearless Conversations at Flagler College with Cynthia Williams - Racism in the U.S. Education System

 

 

In my quest to find solutions for how we can get more of our West Augustine children into the Cambridge program at Murray Middle school, I came upon this Fearless Conversations video from Flagler College, where Cynthia Williams, the director of the Office for Innovations and Equity in the St. Johns County School District sat on a panel discussion racism in the U.S. education system.

This conversation is so important to be had, and I am thankful that we have leaders right here in St. Johns County brave enough to have it. 

Sit down for a minute or two, take a listen, and hear what they have to say.

As a mother of five children, I am on a quest to help other parents and students in our West Augustine community get the education they deserve, whether it is at the elementary, middle, high school or college level. All of our children deserve an equal chance at a top education no matter the color of their skin, their country of origin, their gender, their sexual orientation, or their economic background. 

A lot of money is being poured into the new schools being built in the northern part of St. Johns County, let's all make sure that the school district does not forget about our students in St. Augustine and West Augustine, where it all began. Those who came before us fought so hard for an equal education, but if the younger generations do not keep up the pressure, our best teachers, our school funding and the school district resources will keep on going to the northern part of the county.
